We love to brag about our fabulous industry friends, and event-designer-to-the-stars Matthew Robbins is no exception. With regular appearances with Martha Stewart, a laundry list of celebrity clients and a glossy and gorgeous book, Matthew’s talent seems to know no bounds. That’s why I’m so excited to share some of his floral arrangement secrets that are, surprisingly, quite easy to recreate at home.
Floral Arrangement Secrets by Matthew Robbins, Matthew Robbins Design
-
Go seasonal: For spring arrangements I prefer ranunculus, sweet peas, fritillaria and parrot tulips.
-
Choose wisely: Look for a unique container or vase with color, pattern or a great shape. The perfect vase can make the most basic or simple bouquet of flowers come alive! Choosing a great vase is just as important as your choice in floral material!
-
Get centered: Instead of going for one large arrangement for your table or entry hall, try a cluster of arrangements. Start with one slightly taller center arrangement and build around it with smaller complementary pieces. They can all be very simple with just a few stems in each container. Use smaller, thin vases as the arrangement will look full and interesting when all of the pieces are grouped together.
-
Test-drive colors: Use spring flowers as a tool for testing out a color palette you are considering for a room in your home. If you can’t commit to a wild shade of tangerine or emerald green, try it in your floral arrangements first! You can move the arrangement to different locations in the room to try it out with your existing furniture and accessories.
-
Branch out: Remember to bring some of those gorgeous spring branches indoors as well. A few quince or dogwood branches will add drama and texture to any location in your home. I love mixing blossoming spring branches with elegant and whimsical French tulips. They are unruly and fabulous without requiring too much work!
